One thing I didn’t expect when writing Diary of a Sesh Hound was how much the music would become part of the story.
About 90% of this book was written sitting at Coogee beach with a coffee in hand, headphones on, and the volume set just low enough to block out the world without completely disappearing into it.
When I got stuck, I’d stare blankly at the waves. When I knew a scene was coming that I didn’t want to write, I’d press play.
The songs became part of the process - pulling me back into my twenties through pure nostalgia one minute, and dragging me straight into the emotions of a scene the next.
There were multiple occasions where I had to hide behind my sunglasses because I was fully crying in public while writing.
Over time, certain songs became attached to certain moments, characters, conversations and versions of the story.
So I thought I’d share the playlist that sat beside me while I wrote.
Not because every song directly appears in the book — but because this is what Diary of a Sesh Hound sounded like while it was being built.

If you listen to it, tell me which song feels the most Roisin.
